Torry Newsletter - July, 2026

Dear Madam, Dear Sir,

we would like to inform you shortly about some noteworthy events and news in Delphi world. Enjoy the reading.

Moving stand-alone installers of particular TMS products into Smart Setup/DashBoard

Frankly, you've probably heard about TMS software company and some of you have been using at least
one product from its huge portfolio. Recently, TMS started moving installation scheme from autonomous
standalone installers of each product to the centralized solution based on their Smart Setup or DashBoard
respectively.
Because we've been using a variety of TMS packs, mainly for VCL and FNC, we're "affected" by necessity
of the new approach as well, standalone installers are available not any longer. Initially, we were a bit distrustful
and cautious, because the installation through Smart Setup is fully automatic without any user's leverage
and knowledge "what is going on in the box".
We must acknowledge that all our worries were baseless - the new way of managing installations and performing
updates is crystal-clear and extremely comfortable. You can even edit a definition file TMS.CONFIG.YAML
and change installation directory, create a list of excluded components or specify Delphi version for which
packages shall be installed and compiled.

Very handy is a version number label in Release Version column - it's clickable and provides a quick access
to version history.

Delphi/RAD Studio/C++ Builder prices knocked-down till the end of July

This information is intended prevalently for Czech or Slovak programmers but we suppose that similar promo
is available across the world and comes from Embarcadero in general.
So we'd draw to your attention that you can relish a huge discount for purchases new licenses of mentioned
development tools. The price offer is individual and you can get one by filling the form here (for Czech and
Slovak customers). Further dicsounts can be obtained while simultaneous purchase of Kai licenses.

The alternative way how to create professional documents using XML stencils from Rosinsky Software

One of our older articles at Torry.net dealt with an efficient and low-cost way for creating professionally-looking
document within you Delphi app using TRTFReport component solution from Rosinsky Software.
As a matter of fact, we've been using (not only) this component from company's portfolio for decades and
learnt our customers to use this approach so they can't imagine to work without this resourceful way.

As you can assume regarding the component's name, it's based on existence of an appropriate RTF stencil where
all available data loads from the database table dynamically during the report creation. Not only strings,
numbers and dates can be used in the report stencils, also a formatted text (RTF) stored in a BLOB field
is widely used.
However, users are a bit reckless sometimes (:-)) and have been using "overformatted" rich texts with
many fonts, an advanced numbering, text colors and more. If they use such text in the stencil, they
literally put a new RTF text into existing RTF - which can lead to heavy issues while formatting the result.

To avoid this unwanted behavior, a migration from TRTFReport to TXMLReport is a solution.  Only difference
in RTF and DOCX is that RTF tags in stencil were enclosed by backslashes (\A.NAME\) but DOCX tags
use a pair of the angle brackets (<>>). Both kinds of stencil can be compared below:

RTF stencil

DOCX stencil

You and/or your users can use their existing stencils (we see, based on many feedbacks, that users can create
tens and hundreds of their own stencils) and convert them into DOCX format by the utility shipped
with the components. The migration process is just simple and unobtrusive.
